Any health care provider or agency that sees patients or clients and wishes to help them live a healthy tobacco-free lifestyle can join the Illinois Tobacco Quitline (ITQL) Healthcare Referral Program.    The ITQL provides customized tobacco quit plans for every client.  This custom plan helps every tobacco user in their journey to being tobacco free.  The Healthcare Referral Program streamlines the ability for each provider/agency to refer their clients to the Quitline.

The Jackson County Health Department staff offers onsite or virtual training with health professionals to discuss the brief tobacco intervention model.   The Ask-Advise-Refer is an evidence-based proactive approach to create a brief open dialogue between provider and patient/client and their tobacco use.  If the patient/client expresses a readiness to quit, they are referred to the ITQL certified tobacco treatment specialist.  All specialists are trained by the Mayo Clinic – Nicotine Dependence Center.   All patients/clients will receive free counseling, support and if eligible, nicotine replacement therapy.

Contact the Jackson County Health Department to learn more about this free program or to enroll as a referral partner.
