Tips to properly maintain your system:
Inspect the septic tank annually and have the tank pumped every two to four years or as often as necessary.
Keep the area around your sewage lagoon mowed and free of cattails and other growth. The lagoon should be in the sun, so remove trees and/or limbs that are shading it.
Do not plant bushes, trees, or shrubs over the top of an underground sewage disposal system.
If your system requires chlorine, be sure there is sufficient chlorine available at all times.
On a weekly basis, inspect the system discharge to determine if it is clear and has no unpleasant odor.
