What can I do to prevent standing water and mosquitoes from breeding?

  • Click here to see how to protect your home against mosquitoes.
  • To reduce the mosquito population around your home, eliminate sources of standing water around your home, including:
    • Pool covers, neglected swimming pools or hot tubs, or children's wading pools
    • Birdbaths (clean weekly) and ornamental ponds (have fish present)
    • Toys, gardening equipment, or any items that can hold water
    • Discarded tires (drill a hole in the bottom of tire swings)
    • Tree rot holes or hollow tree stumps
    • Clogged rain gutters (near the home or street)
  • For more tips or additional information, please contact JCHD at (618) 684-3143, ext. 128
