Action teams then worked to develop plans related to the three problems. They assessed existing resources, chose Healthy People 2010 objectives to focus on, and reviewed effective strategies for programming. The five year plans include an overview of the problem, outcome and process objectives, strategies, funding needed, and evaluation methods. Below are the priority health problems and an overview of how we will work to address the problems.
Decrease Cardiovascular Disease
Increase fruit and vegetable consumption by:
Promoting healthy eating through school, worksite and community programming.
Increase the number of people who are exercising by:
Promoting physical activity through school, worksite and community programming.
Reduce nonsmokers exposure to environmental tobacco smoke by:
Increasing the number of smoke-free environments.
Reduce the number of smokers by:
Increasing cessation attempts.
Increase Oral Health Care Access
Increase the number of people who use the oral health care system by:
Increasing fluoride varnish and sealants on children.
Increasing referrals for oral health care.
Increasing oral health education and training to the public.
Decrease Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Reduce the rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea by:
Increasing the use of contraception to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STD/STIs).
Increasing the number of young adults who receive comprehensive sexuality education.
Increasing the number of females who are screened for STD/STIs annually by their health care providers.
