What type of testing for TB does JCHD offer?
- JCHD offers 1 and 2 step TB skin tests (Mantoux tests) during walk-in immunization clinics on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Clients seeking TB testing to satisfy a school or work requirement should clarify with their work or school whether a one or two step test is needed.
- A 1 step test involves completion of a TB screening form and administration of the test by injection in the forearm during the first visit. Clients must return in 48-72 hours to have that test read and documented. Clients getting TB testing to satisfy school or work requirements should bring any required forms with them. If a 2 step test is required (often at first employment in a medical facility or if the reading of the first step is questionable), the client is advised to return 1-3 weeks after the first step was administered to receive the second test (an injection in the opposite forearm). The client will then return again 48-72 hours after the second test was administered to have it read and documented.
- T-spot blood tests for tuberculosis are also available at JCHD for clients with a history of having received the BCG vaccine or questionable test results. Blood tests for TB are by appointment only. Clients should consult with the JCHD TB nurse prior to making an appointment.
- As of September 1, 2017, JCHD no longer accepts insurance for TB skin tests. The fee is $25 and payable by cash, check, or credit card.
