Promoting Health, Preventing Illness, Protecting our Environment and Preparing for Emergencies

What is being done to track if West Nile virus is present in our community?

Jackson County Health Department conducts a West Nile surveillance program that includes collection of eligible dead birds to see if the bird was infected with the West Nile virus. JCHD also collects mosquitoes throughout the county and tests them for West Nile virus. Mosquitoes are the carriers of the disease to humans.
